We know that it can be stressful to you when your pet is admitted for a surgical procedure. The surgical team caring for your pet will strive to explain every procedure and answer every question you have. Rest assured that we will provide compassionate and gentle care for your pet before, during, and after surgery. After all, we are animal owners ourselves and would want the same care for our pets.
After Surgery
- When you pick your pet up after surgery, it may not be fully awake and alert. We use a very safe anesthetic and some of the after effects may be continued: Drowsiness and a slight episode of vomiting.
- Please keep your pet in a warm and safe environment for the rest of the evening and keep a watchful eye on your friend for the next couple of days.
- That night you can provide small amounts of food and water.
- We will remove the sutures in 14 days after surgery was done.
- Sometimes the doctor uses intradermal sutures, these are sutures underneath the skin. The body will absorb them so suture removal is not needed.
- There may be some swelling around the incision site. This is natural. The body is creating a scar. This will slowly regress with time.
- If you see any discharge or if the swelling does not go away in a few days please contact the office.
